points have been a part of jiujitsu for quite some time now and I for one feel that it’s the biggest problem in the sport today. How many competitor’s do you know that have been victims of point stalling. With these rules instituted what you get is not the better man with the gold medal you get the guy that can just happen to end up on top and can hold you there for the duration of the round. Where is the technique where is the teachings that your instructor taught you? Instead what you get is instructors encouraging “the hold “ and you get students who are training for tournaments and not training for life. I pose this question to everyone reading. Your leaving the supermarket with your groceries when your attack by a assailant what would you rather do take him down and get your points and hold. Or choke him unconscious? While you think over that lets discuss mainstream notoriety no audience member wants to see someone hold north south for 8 minutes hardcore fan or not.to maintain jiujitsu as a self-defense and to have it grow as a sport points need to go the way of the dinosaur
thanks for reading, and god bless

Yeah… hard to fathom… BJJ designed to beat BJJ at its highest level. Points is cool to establish control… i guess for beginners.
I find that hunting for a good submission with an already established control just gives you points anyways.
Maybe more focus can be for actual submission attempts & a no points system? kinda like EBI or even Submission Mission Challenge where the winner has a clear decisive win through submission or a shootout styled ending… to actively move to the next round.
